Les Rallizes Denudes

Postby Quaco » 05 Dec 2017, 20:08

I've been meaning to get deeper into these guys, and this clip just blew me away, so now's the time!

Any suggestions as to the best place to start with them? I know there's not much of a studio history, which would be my normal approach, so one is left to somehow determine which live release and which era is best. I'm open to any ideas. I really like what I've heard.

I absolutely adore the band, although it has to be said, I think "Night of the Assassins" is their finest track. As I've pointed out before, it's one of a number of songs to steal from Little Peggy March's "I Will Follow Him", including The Undertones' "Teenage Kicks" and Misfits' "Some Kind of Hate".

I guess it's easier to find a bunch of their stuff these days. Normally people would tell you to start with 77 Live, but I don't actually own that. I believe Heavier than a Death in the Family is largely cribbed from the same gig though, and it's as good a place as any to start. It's basically what you've got there, swathes of feedback washing over lovely bass patterns, whilst someone mumbles harmoniously in Japanese. Another easy to find album is Blind Baby Has Its Mother's Eyes, but that's much more of a feedback frenzy, i find the bass playing much less distinctive, and as such I dig it out a bit less often.

I should add I tracked down a copy of the 6CD Double Heads box set a while back, and if you can get it cheaply enough there's plenty of variety to satisfy for some time. It's a later, short lived version of the band, and they were effectively trying to find a new sound, which at times seemed to mean that they were just going to play each song much, much more slowly, with a heavier blues influence. But it's all fun.

It seeps into your brain and is like a drug to me , Pärson Sound - Pärson Sound is another example of a wall of sound taking you on a trip like catnip to a cat.

Would be my answer too.
Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Strangely, sounds like there is some consensus here! Strange because it's BCB, and also because they seem a like a band with so many releases that I'd think there'd be bound to be lots of answers. Heavier... and Blind Baby... it is then.

I like that they have "nude" in their name.

Hey, this was recorded in the 70s, that makes it acceptable here. Read the rulebook!

I remember you posted "The Night Collectors" by this group, early this year on FB...Interesting stuff...Haven't dug any deeper into them, though...yet...

I approve of them.
