Quite like most of the stuff on Sarah...14 Iced Bears, The Orchids, Another Sunny Day, The Sea Urchins, The Fields Mice, Heavenly etc...
They released a complete recordings for 14 Iced Bears called  'Hold on Inside' in 2013..worth picking up if you stumble across it...

It was about the time they all took acid in Lewes. My erstwhile bandmate Darren (later to play guitar in Brighton’s not very famous Arthur) was with them.

High times!

They were pretty limp though on record. Live they were quite muscular.

I'll have to find that track. I'm eager to know what happened after they stepped outdoors.

Can't wait for all of the original "great Smiths song" jokes.

Dayodead! I remember you! :)

I'm going to try to give the 14 Iced Bears album I have a listen later this evening. In the meantime, maybe you could post a couple of your Sarah Records faves?

Quite a bit on Sarah makes the enamel on my teeth fall off now but in their heyday they had a designated sound that was appealing- listened to Field Mice around the same time I got into bands like The Feelies There were bits of it that were nice - the gritty bits of East River Pipe or the elementary shoegaze of The Sweetest Shine but it just turned a bit too sweet. Some of it was really of school band amateur indie level too (The Sweetest Ache, Sugargliders). Still have a few of their comps floating around here but haven't listened to them in ages.

I've been talking about writing a book - 25 years of TEFL - for a few years now. I've got it in me.

A favorite (by another band that was surprisingly far more muscular live than on record):

Shocking news as the only song on Sarah that I ever liked turns out to have been on Cheree

It takes a big man to cry, but it takes a bigger man to laugh at that man.
