By gash, that's some good stuff. I'll have to listen to the ones I haven't heard or don't remember, but for now I went with the O'Jays, Diana, Tavares, and Thelma.

Diana, Tavares, Buzzard, and Love Unlimited -

I am getting all sentimental now. The soundtrack to much better times (and certainly not because of me being older now - those days were actually, factually, measurably, detectably, politically, economically, philosophically, audibly, visibly, tangibly, olfactorily, and gustatorily so much more... er... human).
On the whole, I'd rather be in Wallenpaupack.

That Trammps track is a scorcher! I might change my vote...

Disco passes into its light ents/showbiz phase.

The best is Miss Ross then the harder-edged, Crusaders-lite Carol Douglas then, barely, the O Jays.
It takes a big man to cry, but it takes a bigger man to laugh at that man.

Nice to see Thelma Houston tearing it up along with Miss Ross.
I also took O'Jays, &"Turn the Beat Around"

I came to my senses on the O'Jays - the other 3 I always loved straight out of the gate.

So are we still fighting the "disco sucks" wars? I'd say this kind of stuff, even if you don't care for it, got a whole hell of a lot worse once they trained machines how to play it while white guys in baggy pants lip-synced. But maybe that's just me...

Oh yes; this is one battle that will always have a front continuing somewhere. Just a fact of life.

Man, I could go on and on about a selection like this, but i'll keep it short. It is a tremendously mixed music bag being offered - you have the male doo wop/soul groups getting in on the disco train, the further expansion of the latin dance sounds, the 'novelty' type commercial tunes, the late soul jazz/funk strains still hanging in there, the soul-pop chanteuses backed by production wizards, the Bee Gees... it's a cornu-fucking-copia of stuff. Disco was never one simple thing, and here it is in all its glory.

For me -

'Movin' - a bit of an outlier here, a throwback to a (slightly) earlier time with the harder edge and soul jazz elements musically but the vocals are pure disco. The mix is intoxicating, perfect disco trance heaven.
'I Love Music' - Almost the perfect pop/soul/disco track.
'Heaven Must Be Missing An Angel' - arguably has the greatest melodic hooks amongst the whole lot. Deceptively simple but actually lightning in a bottle hard to capture or replicate to this level.
'Love Hangover' - oh, that high hat. Again, a song where it's the mix of the harder edges plus pop nous and soul lift, in just the right amounts, that make it work.

Yeah, more or less.

Not easy to get excited about this streamlined pap.

Dr. Buzzard leads the pack for me. That whole LP was stacked with big band goodness.
Bee Gees. Brass Construction and Ritchie Family for the quaddie.

The original of that Thelma Houston number smokes the cover any day of the week

Let U be the set of all united sets, K be the set of the kids and D be the set of things divided.
Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D

Thelma did a more than credible job on that song. Better than the Communards anyway.
