20. Sam Amidon: The following mountain
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GGj6hHcoXBI
Folk explorations. Wonderfully random.

19. Beck: Colors
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8I1B4n_8Cto
Grooves for the masses. I love the concept and the execution.

18. Gruppo di Pawlowski: In inhuman hands
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HYVPg1vKPyg
Demons having a party. Loud, relentless and surreal.

17. Coco Hames: Coco Hames
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kOQ9ZJJc2-M
Classic country-garage.

16. Deslondes: Hurry home
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VpjQLt_IBIA
Unshowy, old fashioned songs of experience.

15. Pieter-Jan Van Campenhout: Tragic magic man
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-vZ3NZ34SkI
Tragic backstory precedes this wonderful posthumous demo collection. Elliott Smith-territory.

14. Nev Cottee: Broken flowers
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W63ecYVY9tM
The slowest record of the year. You can take in the landscape between beats. Moody country.

13. Karl Blau: Out her space
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hl-TM_Cf_4g
Fires off in all directions.

12. Sneaks: It's a myth
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_rinFWMZUGE
Attitude (and a drum machine).

11. Ty Segall: Ty Segall
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bycWOz6RwIg
Fuzzy pop.

10. Battle hymns
http://www.quasiband.com/
Quasi-curated protest album to benefit Planned Parenthood. Aging indierockers find the goods.

9. Spiral stairs: Doris & the daggers
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UIZtpoHPSSM
Out of left field newly sentimental midlife vignettes quietly got under my skin.

8. Wooden wand: Clipper ship
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rccEMShJ824
Like a lost golden age Californian singer-songwriter classic.

7. Mac Demarco: This old dog
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ov-gqxEexHM
Relaxed grooves, deep stuff.

6. Thurston Moore: Rock'n'roll consciousness
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rrpHWZgENdo
I'd given up on Thurston, but it seems he's been quietly carving his way back, ending up with this great meandering, dreamy guitar album. Long songs that could go on forever.

1. Millionaire: Sciencing

Exciting

1. Jake Xerxes Fussell: What in the natural world

Old fashioned

1. Cairo gang: Untouchable

Messy garage.

1. Chris Forsyth: Dreaming in the non-dream

Television - just the solos.

1. Motorpsycho: The tower

Wide-eyed

I'm just not feeling the love this year. I've explored a lot of albums, a lot of new artists and I can't say anything has really grabbed me firmly enough to make a lasting impression. Don't get me wrong, I've enjoyed a lot but I just don't love anything enough to endure a lasting relationship. A sample of the albums that kept me amused, distracted or absorbed for a while;

Image
King Krule - The Ooz - Couldn't make my mind up about this. And the jury is still out. It's got something but whatever it's got is lost in the glut of overload. The album (like most modern albums) is far too long.

Image
Kevin Morby - City Music - I described this on first listen as Leonard Cohen discovering he had an obsession with Lou reed in 1972 and dedicating an album to him. It has some brilliant moments on it. It kind of outstays its welcome but interesting listening.

Image
visible cloaks - reassemblage - Fresh, unusual and tranquil.

Image
Sleaford Mods - English Tapas - Same old... but funny as fuck.

Loved this upto about 2 thirds the way through and then got bored.

Similarly... lovely songs but much like the lure of the Cowboy Junkies, they entrap you in that lucsious monotony that you just want to escape from.

You're just listening to the wrong records, Lenny.
These records may be the bees knees, but they did nothing for me either.

The dilemma being, how do you find the "right" record? I certainly don't have your capacity for listening to music. I'm baffled by it :? I just couldn't absorb that amount of music in one year :o

True, it's time consuming finding the right records these days. There's so much stuff around, and so little discernment in the media.
I hang out on YouTube mostly.

I can't find any numbers but it seemed to sell alot more than TPAB - but yea, I gave it about 6 listens and then put it away. Still listen to TPAB and untitled unmastered regularly. Shit album cover too.
