Re: Rank the tracks Doors 1st album
I had to give it a quick listen first, because I had no memory at all of two of the tracks, and only a hazy idea of others.
top three are in order, next four largely interchangeable. Never liked JM's soul man schtick, and nothing's going to make me listen to the last two embarrassments (mine, not theirs) again

Re: Rank the tracks Doors 1st album
Love unconditionally:
Soul Kitchen
Break on Through (To the Other Side)
Light My Fire
The Crystal Ship
Imperfect, but near-great and nervy as hell:
The End
Really, really good, and unusual for the time:
Alabama Song (Whiskey Bar)
More typical of the period, but still damned impressive:
Take It As it Comes (I sometimes picture Jagger singing this one)
I Looked At You
20th Century Fox
Still really good, just my least favorite in this context:
End of the Night

Re: Rank the tracks Doors 1st album
I've played the album a few times over the weekend to see how i feel about all the tracks, and here's my order as it stands today -
Soul Kitchen
End of the Night
The Crystal Ship
Light My Fire
Break On Through (To the Other Side)
Back Door Man
The End
Alabama Song (Whisky Bar)
I Looked at You
Twentieth Century Fox
Take It As It Comes
There is no a single song i don't like on the album, though. 'The End' used to be top 5 in my 20s, but not any more. And 'Back Door Man' used to get skipped a lot more than now; in fact, i'll often play it just to hear how fantastically it comes to life under the group's urging.

Are people (apart from the hippest BCBers) not choosing 'Light My Fire' as their number one because they're burnt (ha ha) out on it, or because they just think the other tracks are as good?

Not so much burnt out, but used to it, if that makes sense. It still thrills me, but it's not the song I go to first now when I spin the album because i've heard it a lot more often in a lot of other situations than just when I decide to put the Doors debut on. Songs like 'Soul Kitchen' or 'End of the Night' have become a special treat I enjoy in a more personal way now. Not making a value judgement here; just which songs I enjoy most or want to listen to most these days.
