I'd mentioned this before, but never actually attempted a track list. Here is a fictional Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young LP from December of 1971. A triple album. I took songs from these records:
Neil Young - After the Gold Rush
Stephen Stills - Stephen Stills & Stephen Stills 2
Graham Nash - Songs for Beginners
David Crosby - If I Could Only Remember My Name
Side One
1. Southern Man (Neil) 5:31
2. Love the One You're With (Stephen) 3:04
3. Music is Love (David) 3:16
4. I Used to Be a King (Graham) 4:45
5. Tell Me Why (Neil) 2:54
Side Two
1. Sit Yourself Down (Stephen) 3:05
2. Simple Man (Graham) 2:18
3. Laughing (David) 5:20
4. Only Love Can Break Your Heart (Neil) 3:05
5. Chicago/We Can Change the World (Graham) 3:55
Side Three
1. Tamalpais High (at about 3) (David) 3:29
2. Change Partners (Stephen) 3:13
3. Don't Let it Bring You Down (Neil) 2:56
4. Military Madness (Graham) 2:50
5. Song With No Words (tree with no leaves) (David) 5:53
Side Four
1. Man in the Mirror (Graham) 2:47
2. Marianne (Stephen) 2:27
3. After the Gold Rush (Neil) 3:45
4. Traction in the Rain (David) 3:40
5. Black Queen (Stephen) 5:26
Side Five
1. When You Dance I Can Really Love (Neil) 4:05
2. Cowboy Movie (David) 8:02
3. To a Flame (Stephen) 3:08
4. Better Days (Graham) 3:47
Side Six
1. I'd Swear There Was Somebody Here (David) 1:19
2. Old Times Good Times (Stephen) 3:39
3. I Believe in You (Neil) 3:24
4. Wounded Bird (Graham) 2:09
5. The Lee Shore (David) 5:28
6. Cripple Creek Ferry (Neil) 1:33

Make it a 4 LP set and you can get all the other tracks in there too.

Then put all the Crosby songs on one album, and the Neil tracks on another etc. Then everything will be as it was before. As it should be.

I pretty much got everything worthy of mention. I'll tellin' ya - it would've been the best LP of 1971...

Rather than do a double album and hedge your bets, you should just take the songs from the four's first albums.
Don't fake the funk on a nasty dunk!

Chicago and Military Madness are very much needed.
3Lps is too much, need to edit down to a double. Makes it more of a challenge too.

It works just fine as a triple album - and a real triple, not a double with an extra LP of jams like All Things Must Pass. All four were at the height of their abilities at that time. The quality of the LP above doesn't diminish too much as you move through it.

I'll give it a go (ATMP is beyond criticism for me.)
Still think 3 LPs too much but i'll give it a try.

1/3 of it is utterly useless!
Of course, the first two LPs are exquisite.

You're correct of course but that also makes me want to dig the jams out for a play.
the 3LP ATMP is pretty much a deluxe edition 30 years before that became the norm.
