Yeah I think you're right.

Ah, I forgot that. I know that as the a-side – never liked David Watts – and would have voted for it above In The City.

I'd totally forgotten that "The Butterfly Collector" backed "Strange Town" so that makes its inclusion ever more important.

I had to leave out Going Underground!

Dreadful!

(Tube Station, Malice, Beat Surrender)

"Dreams of Children" is their greatest song, and that's their greatest single (like the A side a lot as well) by a mile.

I also voted "Tube Station" and "Malice." They were really not a great singles band, were they? The last two are particularly weak.

In the City / Strange Town and a toss up between Tube Station and Going Underground.

To me they were only really a singles band, but I agree with you about their last two. Might well have signposted the kind of drivel Weller was about to release with The Style Council.

Are you sure you're not one of my manifold aliases?

The last two are fab, of course and that's an almost faultless catalogue.

Anyway, for me: ST, ER and GU/DoC. They were a fantastic band.

Nah, I've never pretended to be a manifold.

Strange Town is being undervalued here.

I like later period Jam.

Me too. Not that I don’t like early and middle.

Bitterest Pill is over-wordy Weller but has a great melody.
Absolute Beginners – so much better than the dodgy Bowie song of the same name.
I’ve got a soft spot for News of the World. What were they up to with all those "world" singles?

I’m surprised That’s Entertainment was never a single. I always assumed it was.

It was released as a single in Europe and charted in the UK on import iirc. Like 'Just Who Is The 5 o'clock Hero?'

I see, I didn’t realise they were import only. Just who is the 5 o’clock hero was a pretty big hit too iirc. Surprising for an import only single

The problem with that song is that the demo version (on the compilation "snap") is much better than the version recorded by the band.
