I remember Elton and Bernie going to bat for him pretty early on in (yes) Rolling Stone - basically saying that Lennon's more strident string arrangements on Imagine were little more than a cop from their work with Buckmaster.

Paul Buckmaster. I read an article about the album years ago in which he was quoted as saying it was the Miles album he liked least of all, something along those lines.
