I wondered the same. If I'd thought of Bowie (somehow I managed not to  ) I would have taken it over Blackstar. I think it's a better record, and for me had more element of surprise to it as well (I had given up on Bowie decades previous, something I might have mentioned a few times here...)

It's much better than Blackstar!

Disqualified as it was blatantly just a bunch of rejected demoes from 1991 :)

90% of his back catalogue is better than Black Star. If Neil Young had passed away, "Peace trail" would be straight in at number 2.

As far as I'm concerned, Blackstar is head and shoulders above every other record I've heard of his, including his 70s output. But I haven't heard The Next Day just yet.

:( actually came close to making my list.

In regards to Bowie both are nice albums but far from as great as people here think.

Actually those are the ones I haven't! :)

I like Bowie well enough but to be honest he's never been an artist I took too deeply with - there's very few songs from him than mean much to me beyond some general degree of appreciation or enjoyment. Not the case with Blackstar, though, the album just resonated with me like no other of his so far did. Great tunes, great moods, interesting subjects and a very soulful delivery the likes which I've only seen of him in his latter days though never paired with material this good.

Such a disappointing placing for this, my favourite 21st Century album of all. Not enough SW fans voting despite my rallying calls on FB
