What do you think of this?
I ended up listening to this as You Tube sent me there after a marathon Alice Coltrane listening session. I don't know why Moondog hadn't entered my field of vision before - I mean Philip Glass etc didn't just wake up with those songs in his head - but I knew nothing about the man whatsoever or his legacy. I've tried to see if he has ever been talked about on here but the search function hasn't thrown anything up.
His life story is extraordinary. His music just beautiful. Anyone else out there a fan? If you have never heard him, I'd be fascinated to know what you think. I've listened to virtually nothing else since finding him.
You come at the Queen, you best not miss.

Woah, it almost sounds like you're starting to listen to (gasp) jazz, minnie?!
I haven't heard that one above - sounds nice! - but i do like a bit of Moondog, especially the Columbia LPs from 69/71 Moondog and 2.

Haven't had time to listen to that particular link. He's was a name I'd heard, I think from lists of cool album covers, that sort of thing, but never knew what he was like until a few years ago when I finally took the plunge. I thought he was some jazzer. Turns out he was completely different than I thought.

I like him, certainly. Never owned any of his albums in physical form, but they were around when I was at uni at the turn of the 70s, and he was talked about then. I did have a mate-taped cassette of his first two albums, but I suspect that's long gone; all I have now is a DL of Viking on Tenth Avenue that I dip into occasionally, but virtually anything I've heard is worth listening to.

I've only heard his first album and it's really good - can't listen to this one 'cos I'm on a train but will do tonight

Re: What do you think of this?
This album I posted is out of print and going for a couple of hundred dollars on the net.
I've just sent the link to a few people in my office and they are all listening to it but of course they all started at different times so it all sounds like a crazy scene. But everyone is saying 'wow' which is something they never normally say when I send them music.

Re: What do you think of this?
Every so often I hear something that is like having my music self 're-set'. Like a, 'woah look what's possible, now let's explore all this' button. I felt a bit like that after watching Storefront Hitchcock and now this again has the same effect. I'm actually sat with tears streaming down my face with rabid pleasure just listening to it again and again!

Bump, because I've been meaning to check out Moondog for ages, but can't interrupt Lez Rallizes Denudes right now.
Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.

Listening to this again. Lots of it would not be out of place on 'Blackstar'.

Will listen more later but from what I hear it's the sort of thing I love when a certain mood moves in. In a Talk Talk - Garden of Eden- sort of way
