Seems like. When you GOOGLE him, one of the results is a Fagen interview about him being sick and missing shows.
I've loved them since "Cant Buy a Thrill" became a surprise and unavoidable smashola in my teenaged years.

What seems less known about him (but not surprising) is what a funny bastard he was. the Steely Dan website used to have all these letters to the Rock and Roll hall of fame he wrote and lots of other goofy stuff. seriously bleak and funny point of view.
I'm glad I got to see Steely Dan a few years back and that the crowd gave him a LOT of love. He sang a number and later cracked the band up talking a lot of nonsense. It was great.

He was one of a kind. I love those.

I had the exact same thought(s).

I only got into Steely Dan about 10 years ago or so. It was that Classic Albums TV show on Aja, which still remains my favourite album (first love). Vale Walter Becker.

Nice tribute from Rickie Lee Jones, Walter produced her Flying Cowboys album.

Nice tribute from Rickie Lee Jones, Walter produced her Flying Cowboys album.

I first heard Steely Dan back in Kansas City, Missouri, where I ended up living with my dad after running away from home a second summer in a row. It was 1970 and I was just 15 years old. "Do It Again" was playing on the radio that summer night. I had just dropped some acid and I was on my way to see Led Zeppelin for their KC concert on their first USA tour. My date was a fat guy I had just met – him driving by and said, "Hey you wanna go to a concert?" He had high hopes I guess, and I just wanted to get out of the house. What I remember more than Led Zeppelin though is "Do It Again" drumming through the twilight heat...

"Do It Again" wasn't on the radio in the summer of 1970; it was released in the autumn of 1972. And it wouldn't have been Led Zeppelin's first US tour, but their sixth. (I had to look it up. She could have.)

I could go on, and on (especially about equating Jay & The Americans with Paul Revere & The Raiders - gah!), but... she's grieving, I guess. I'll cut her some slack.

To be fair Charlie, Jimmy Page can't remember where the divine inspiration for "Dazed & Confused" came to him, so RLJ deserves some slack, I think... :D

Gutted. What a band. What a run of albums. Legends.

I'm sadder about this than Bowie.
