I voted for Patti because for me 'vocalist' is not a synonym for 'singer', and while Sandy's performance (and writing) on Who Knows Where the Time Goes, for instance, is beautiful and tuneful, it does not have a tenth the power and glory of Patti's intonation of, say, Piss Factory, Birdland or even Free Money. While I love the Captain's voices, whether he's channeling Howling Wolf, reciting absurdist poetry or crooning through Harry Irene, I voted for Patti partly because no one else did, which is a travesty of taste, and partly because, unlike Sunday Dinner and the good Captain, she still retains the power when performing without any backing whatsoever, as evidenced by her St Marks Church recordings.
A perfectly valid take, and I'm glad someone took it.
