But the stereo mix is so shit - the beginning of Lucifer Sam was mixed by a total fucking imbecile - that the mono is infinitely better


Interstellar overdrive would be fine if it had the middle 4 minutes removed.
As it is, it queers the pitch somewhat.
I don't really care too much for the wigout of Stethescope either.
Even PowRToch goes on a bit

But the songs make up for the longeurs.

I was shocked to read Malcolm Jones's saying the whole album was originally going to be jammy like 'Interstellar Overdrive' 'Reaction in G' and so on. Only once 'See Emily Play' had become a surprise hit did they realize Syd had the ability to write real songs and they had him write more.

Why did they decide to leave them off?

I thought this was an interesting comment. A friend of mine said this in regards a 1968 clip of Gilmour singing "Flaming" some months after Syd was booted.

So many great musicians but few whose gift was like [Syd's]. Hearing Gilmour sing "Flaming" a treat for me here - you note how perfect the melody is, how it shapes the person singing it.
