Praxis - Transmutation (Mutatis Mutandis)

Postby K » 16 Jul 2017, 13:17

Bootsy Collins & Bernie Worrell with Buckethead on guitar, Bryan "Brain" Mantia on drums and Afrika Bam Bam on turntables. As experimental as hardcore funk gets. The kind of metal/funk that the RHCP would dream of doing but couldn't if they played for a million years. The kind of stuff my wife would make me turn off.

Transmutation (Mutatis Mutandis) is their first album (1992).

The second one features John Zorn so I've got to hear that.

Here's a track

Gotta love Bootsy!

Here is the single
“He’s got the memory of an elephant ... and the trophy cabinet of one too.”

I absolutely love it. I was real big on Bill Laswell's Axiom Records and I think that one is the cream of the crop.
I think it's the best thing that says "praxis" on it. The one with Zorn (sacafist) is good too but really a different sort of thing.

I really don't get how laswell could keep project names while drastically changing who it was & what they were doing. There's one single credited to Praxis that I don't think has any of those guys on it.

Anyway, I love "transmutation". I like sacrafist & metatron but don't really warm to the rest.
Bootsy & Buckethead did that "zillatron" album - I think that one's very good.

I have very recently downloaded the Zillatron album. Hope to listen soon.

It's pretty silly but Bootsy really swings and I think he's making some statements about addiction or Eddie Hazel's death or something. Anyway, him and Buckethead are really simpatico like on Transmutation.
