Just ignore it, fange, this isn't a crucible of democracy, just an opportunity to squabble about stuff ;)

Ok, you've sold me. :) Sorry, Abashed. Hope you dig the poll anyway.

11 - 32 now up. Top 10 tomorrow!

I get the impression that Abashed was just an alias anyway, Ange. This person's only four posts other than the Kinks list were three rather negative ones about Everton in the sports forum, and one laughing at somebody's efforts in Mix Club. Hmmm...

I'm really pleased that "This Is Where I Belong" and "Where Have All the Good Times Gone" made the Top 20! I think those were my top two tracks.

From an old thread we had here about power pop:

(I first encountered this concept in John Mendelssohn's scathing critique of "Celluloid Heroes" - a critique I find myself referencing on this board with alarming frequency.)

I'd be curious to hear more about this. That melody seems pretty simple and strong. Maybe the song strives for some significance that it doesn't quite reach, and maybe the verse melody is rather busy compared to the chorus, but is that what you mean?

I looked online, but couldn't find John Mendelssohn review -- only a couple other references to it, both of which only further convinced me that it's a most brilliant song. Do you have it handy, Charlie?

It was a paragraph or so in his book The Kinks Kronikles, which came out in 1983 or '4. I'll see if I can find my copy - may take a while...

Thanks A!

Nice to see 'Victoria' score so high. That's a song that never fails me.

Great job Ange!

It's a good list. Not a single song to complain about (which is a testament to the greatness of the Kinks). The only surprise for me is how much more regard I seemingly have for Wonderboy than the rest of BCB. I picked it 4th overall, just after Waterloo Sunset. Meanwhile it barely made most lists.

There are a LOT of songs i would have liked to have voted for, but that's what you get with a list of just 20, i guess. There a bunch that really hurt not to choose, 'This Is Where I Belong', 'Autumn Almanac', 'Wonderboy', 'Come On Now' in particular.

"All of My Friend Were There" is the equivalent for me. I rated it very highly, but apparently not a single other person had it anywhere!

Great to see "You Really Got Me" almost beat "Waterloo Sunset". There's hope for us yet.

(I adore "WS" too.)

Only 2 votes for 'Lavender Hill', i love that song! But to be fair, there's not a single song in the list that i don't at least like.

I almost pushed WS lower on my list to try and engineer it that way, but in the end I just couldn't feel good about putting any songs but You Really Got Me and This Is Where I Belong above it.

Definitely a one-off that follows its own path then just ends.

Yes, thanks indeed and great job. I was surprised to see "Shangri La" so low until I saw what was above it.

Only song I have a slight regret not voting for is "I'm Not Like Everybody Else."
