Purple rain expanded version

Postby K » 26 Jun 2017, 19:28

3 CDs plus a DVD if the great Syracuse gig. Under £20 at Amazon.
Although I have lots of these tracks, it's nice to have them like this. Hope they do this for his other albums

I've only listened to the original album so far and.... well... I didn't notice very much different. That doesn't in any way detract from just how brilliant an album it is - though I could safely do without "Baby I'm A Star" (but have always felt that way) and "I would Die 4 U" does little for me these days either. But the rest is still an absolute tour-de-force. I was thinking I'd forgotten just what an astonishing vocalist Prince truly was.

Will it have the long version of "Computer Blue"?
Where would rock 'n' roll be without feedback?

I'm watching the 1985 Live gig right now. Apart from the wonderful hit of nostalgia (I know every word) it's a remarkable concert. He is brilliant. I love the fact that this tour, right after Purple Rain exploded onto the world contains every song from the album as well as massive hits like 1999 and Little Red Corvette, but also finds time for B-Sides like Irresistible Bitch and How Come U Don't Call Me, but even better a scintillating version of Possessed which has remained unreleased until now (unless you had a bootleg)

Have I mentioned I was at that concert?
Maybe I'll pick this up when I have some cashish to spare.

Holy shit - you are now my hero.
I have an old video rip of the gig if you want to remember it.

That gig was live on TV and I remember watching it at 4am at home... Left an indelible mark on me.

The new DVD has been pretty well cleaned up. My video rip is poor quality and I'd assumed that was the best I was getting. This is great. I'm just on the 19 minute version of Purple Rain now,

I love the second 'unreleased' stuff album (including the full "Computer Blue" etc....)

Criticism - the packaging is utter shit. It is impossible to get the DCD's out without gumming up the edges. So fucking unnecessary.

I finally picked this up - I've been skint for much of the summer but finally spotted this in a Best Buy on a day when I could spare the $30.

So far I'm halfway through Disc 2, the unreleased stuff, and loving it. Some of that I've heard on bootlegs in warbly cassette quality; some I've never heard.

I'm really glad they have made this available at a reasonable price, compared to the Who's My Generation box set with a similar running time on the music (and no video content) plus a $120 price tag.
