But really as good as the verse and chorus and middle eight are - it's all about what happens NOW that matters!

That LA version is 28 minutes long.....

Nearly as good as the 45 minute LA version of "Dazed...." from '75....

DD made an excellent compilation I alluded to earlier - it really is thanks to that that I'm coming around to them. Have come to enjoy live Zep. Tonight's listen has opened my ears a bit - I liked the acoustic and mood pieces very much, have issues a few times with Plant's sound, the contribution - the touches- from JPJ were outstanding.

Thanks to all once more, another ear opening session. How does Houses rank in your eyes? Think it's the album I've heard least bar In Through the Out Door. LZ3 would be my first choice studio album, I suspect with repeated plays this might come at least level with it (would skip D'Yer Maker though).

I always have to slightly downgrade i because of "D'Yer Maker" and (ffor me, anyway) "The Crunge" to an extent.

But the other six tracks are tremendous - "TSRTS", "Over The Hills...", "The Ocean" and "Dancing Days" are just a touch below "No Quarter" and the eternally brilliant "The Rain Song" (which is always in my Zep top three)..... I would rate it behind Graffiti, 3 & 4 (and probably 1too) but above 2... so probably fifth for me.
But that's a reflection of how magical those first six albums really are.

I rank them like this (today):

IV
Physical Graffiti
III
Houses Of The Holy
I
Presence
II
In Through The Out Door
Coda

With the caveat that this sometimes changes as the wind blows and what I have listened to most recently.

I think given what you said during the listen, that Physical Graffiti might be your next best stop. There's a lot of variety on the second disc (and some very nice JPJ contributions). And the first disc ain't half bad either. :D
