I did a psych comp months ago where I only used one song per group/artist. So the discipline was you couldn't have too much Floyd, Dead, Beatles, etc. One track per act. Since I didn't see this thread years ago and most other people have listed the obvious choices (my list starts out with nothing but), I'll give you my top twenty:

1. See Emily Play - Floyd
2. Eight Miles High - Byrds
3. I Can See for Miles - Who
4. Happenings Ten Years Time Ago - Yardbirds
5. White Rabbit - Airplane
6. Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds - Beatles
7. Bass Strings (EP version) - Country Joe/Fish
8. I Had Too Much to Dream... - Electric Prunes
9. Stephanie Knows Who - Love
10. In A Gadda Da Vida (LP version) - Iron Butterfly
11. Open My Eyes - Nazz
12. Flight from Ashiya - Kaleidoscope
13. All Along the Watchtower - Hendrix
14. White Bird - It's a Beautiful Day
15. Fresh Garbage - Spirit
16. Imposter's of Life's Magazine - Idle Race
17. That's it for the Other One - Dead
18. Summertime Blues - Blue Cheer
19. 2000 Light Years from Home - Stones
20. White Room - Cream

There were 65 songs in total when I got bored. Almost five hours of music.

Nice list!

Very nice list!!

From that lot I would select:

1. See Emily Play - Pink Floyd
2. Eight Miles High - Byrds
3. White Rabbit - Jefferson Airplane
4. Fresh Garbage - Spirit
5. 2000 Light Years from Home - The Rolling Stones

I am never sure how to define psychedelia or what fits in and what doesn't.

I wouldn't think Cream did - perhaps something earlier.

Possibly Tales of Brave Ulysses or SWLABR......?

:D

Music informed by acid would be a good definition. But I'm not sure the guys in Cream ever did LSD.

"White Room" is certainly a psychedelic song though, C.

The Move - I Can Hear The Grass Grow
Kinks - See My Friends
Beatles - Strawberry Fields Forever
Jimi Hendrix - Purple Haze
Rolling Stones - We Love You/Dandelion
Small Faces - Itchycoo Park

Very obvious perhaps but these are the ones that did it for me and loved then and still do - there could have been another 50 at least, all of Matts' list for a start and many, many more. Far too difficult to name 5, these six are the tip of the iceberg.

Thinking back to when I was actually tripping and some songs that helped to paint some pretty pictures in my mind.

I Don't Live Today - Hendrix
Children of the Future - Steve Miller Band
Get High - Sons of Champlin (That left and right vibraphone solo!)
2000 Light Years - The Stones
Pharaoh's Dance - Miles Davis
Honorable mention: Cabaret - Louis Armstrong

Just been looking through the Mojo booklet they produced on Psychedelia way back when. Can't believe I didn't list some of these:

Rolling Stones - Paint It Black
Eric Burdon and The Animals - San Franciscan Nights, Sky Pilot
Troggs - Love Is All Around
Troggs - Night of the Long Grass
Blind Faith - Can't Find My Way Home
Count Five - Psychotic Reaction

Beach Boys - Good Vibrations
Moby Grape - Omaha
Buffalo Springfield - Broken Arrow
Steppenwolf - Magic Carpet Ride
Love - Alone Again Or

Apologies if many have already been listed.
