Re: RIP Jimmy LaFave
Big fan here. I was hooked from his debut. A fabulous voice and a wonderful interpreter of others material, his own songs sometimes paled a little in comparison. That didn't stop me picking up most of his albums upon release. I never got to see him play live and I had no idea that he was ill.
Recently I've been playing this cover of Jackson Browne's For Everyman, taken from Looking Into You: A Tribute to Jackson Browne, and it should give you an fair idea of Jimmy's sound.
RIP JImmy, your albums always moved me.

Oh man, no! I haven't kept up with him in years tbh but I enjoyed his music a lot. Classic Texas music. I saw him at The Palms circa 2003 and a friend recorded a ge show so guess what's going on next? He did a smashing version of My Guitar Gently Weeps. R.I.P. Jimmy.

Re: RIP Jimmy LaFave
A friend of mine recently died of the same thing. He found out two months before when he wasn't feeling great and they did some tests. Two months to say goodbye and make peace with everything. Apparently, sarcoma can come on pretty fast and take you is what his wife told me.
It seemed like LaFave was able to get done most of what he wanted to finish once he found out, like my buddy.

Re: RIP Jimmy LaFave
Listening to The Palms show from 2002 I had forgotten that he played the first show at the new location. He was originally scheduled to be the last show at the old place but things changed. He opened with a Townes Van Zandt song. I wish I could have been at that show on the 18th. It was the wrong day to be in California.

Re: RIP Jimmy LaFave
He had a great run of albums in the early 90s that got great reviews in OOR Magazine- I saw him play in The Hague and he was great. I saw that tribute-piece last week, not realizing he was so ill. Damn.
RIP.

A sad but timely reason to dig out the 2 or 3 albums of his I own and have forgotten about for the last 10 years or more.
RIP JImmy.

That's the very track that introduced me to Jimmy all those years ago. Great stuff.
