So was Jim Steinman.

Carmen and the Raspberries have some good stuff and they certainly try very very hard, but there is always a naffness quotient to everything. They are so full of themselves. And yet, I want that in a rock star. And yet they are not and will never be rock stars.

Not the best or worst example of Eric Carmen trying to be McCartney. Dunno about Fleetwood Mac, but Styx were clearly listening.
Where would rock 'n' roll be without feedback?

I hear Jay Ferguson. And maybe Andrew Gold?

And the piano at the end, Jeff Lynne.

Quintessential 70s schmaltz. I guess Carmen is/was more of a composer than a vocalist, but he does get stronger near the end.

I was generous with a 3 cuz the piano is nice. But the strings have got to go.

I consider myself a fan of the Raspberries, but - yeah, this is like a demo reel of all of Eric Carmen's musical problems.

I love early 70s pop music. The Raspberries' best songs are among my favorites. But this is a bloated mess.
