Mind-blowing and in front of 25 people

This is my new favorite Groundhogs album. Tony's best guitar, vocal and songwriting album and a kickass rhythm section behind him. What's not to love?

I was living in east London at the time (Walthamstow) and there is a pub oppsite Blackhorse Lane called the Standard it was one of the circuit pubs for the big names who may have now past their big venue status or were up and coming.

It was the late 80s - probably 1988

My running mate John and I went to see the Groundhogs at the Standard - again a small venue about 120 people maximum.

Anyway, despite Tony's health not be great, he delivered a tight set of all the Split/Thank Christ/Soplid/Hogwash era - superb.

At the end he was sitting having a drink on his own, minding his own business, and this absolute tosser went up to him and was giving him a hard time
time - not being critical but over-bearing and prying into Tony's space.

I went over to Tony who looked at me with very sad eyes and I said do you want me to remove this man from your space and he said yes.

I then calmly ushered this tosser away 'spoke to him and then he departed.

Tony wasn't at his best and needed his space even though he is a performer - why don't some people see that?

As I mentioned last week my first ever live gig as a spotty teenager was the Groundhogs supported by Egg (featuring Clive Brooks). Amongst my motley crew of school mates who went along to Manchester Free Trade Hall that evening were a couple of lads who made it quite big in the music world a few years later. Let's just say that their Monday is no longer Blue!

BTW the more I've listened to Hogwash this week the more it's going to the top of my 'Hogs list, but can it knock off Split from the top spot pop pickers?

Good on you.

Bit of an eternal question - why are so many so self entitled?
