Tony had had a least one heart attack by then so wasn't at his greatest but that solo set he did that night was absolutely stunning. Him and his acoustic

Small gigs are the best.
Long time since I was in a large venue.

It was the late 80s - probably 1988
My running mate John and I went to see the Groundhogs at the Standard - again a small venue about 120 people maximum.
Anyway, despite Tony's health not be great, he delivered a tight set of all the Split/Thank Christ/Soplid/Hogwash era - superb.
At the end he was sitting having a drink on his own, minding his own business, and this absolute tosser went up to him and was giving him a hard time
time - not being critical but over-bearing and prying into Tony's space.
I went over to Tony who looked at me with very sad eyes and I said do you want me to remove this man from your space and he said yes.
I then calmly ushered this tosser away 'spoke to him and then he departed.
Tony wasn't at his best and needed his space even though he is a performer - why don't some people see that?
