minuscule moments in music that move you

Postby naughty boy » 24 Apr 2017, 09:53

Two for you.

0:17, when the drums come in, and (especially) 0:57, when the synth comes in - fucking amazing, but you need it loud, on headphones

and

2:32, after the break, before the grand finale - drum roll, synths get hammered, Ferry's voice even dafter and camper - sudden end. Magic.

"The dream is over
What can I say?
The dream is over
Yesterday
I was the dream weaver
But now I'm reborn
I was the Walrus
But now I am John
And so dear friends
You just have to carry on
The dream is over"

I could list a million. Here's just one for now - 2:06 to 2:12, the way she sings the word "there":

"Quite."

At 2:30, when the second guitar line comes in. It's been a long slow build up to that point, and then it's heavenly choir stuff. Then again at 3:20 when the faint vocals, electronic buzzing, and telephone-esque ringing kick in.
Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.

Well, I tried. Maybe you could define it more succinctly? How about that one time when Ian Curtis had a spasm at that one gig in 1979 somewhere? Or would that be a "minuscule moment in music that moved Ian Curtis"?

The first six seconds of Bowie's here comes the night from pinups. That amazing throat warble , it's fucking primal.

Exactly 2:16 into White Light White Heat
The crazy harmonising at the end of Rainy Night House
The first line of 'Tell it Like It Is'
You come at the Queen, you best not miss.

No, sorry. Did a google search, nothing turned up. But no offense taken, it's all in fun!

Another moment I love is in Hazey Jane I by Nick Drake. During the first verse, the drums do this roll on the toms between every line... until he sings, "...or will you stop once and wonder" and the drums pause for just that line. Subtle, but effective.

The cracks that appear in Bowie's voice during 'Letter to Hermione' in the run up to 'well so do I'
