Femmes, Cindy Lauper, Style Council and Aztec Camera are the only ones I care about. So, four was a nice number for me.

Cyndi Lauper, Aztec Camera, The The and The Chameleons, in that order

Bubbling under: SRV, Billy Bragg, Big Country, The Waterboys and Violent Femmes (...and the MIA Tears for Fears) - that's about it.

Big Country ....still play it today, great album
Aztec Camera .... moments of brilliance, though, at times, a little fey
The The .....because they seemed to care about music and the world.

Madonna, I suppose. I don't even know it that well!

Indeed. Some really over rated records. The only one I could approve was Madonna's debut, which is stellar.

The two obvious choices for me were 45 Grave and Aztec Camera.

My 3rd and 4th choices were Madonna and Cyndi Lauper, but I've not actually heard either of those albums since the 80's. Was also considering Nena.

Had to think about not including that one too.

Femmes and Paul Young for me. How amazed was I when I cast my votes and found I wasn't the only sad fucker who voted for No Parlez?

Paul Young was my major teenage crush, and I probably played that album every day for a long time. I saw him live three times, and I even HELD HIS HAND for one song. (OK; not a whole song. Just a bit of it. A few notes. Maybe one note. But I haven't washed it since)

You're probably right! I just feel a need to stick up for him here---I'm not his greatest fan, but people like us tend to underrate him. And there wasn't anything else to vote for!

Yes, there is that. :)

Actually, there are quite a few on that list i enjoy and like well enough, but apart from Madonna none i'd confidently label great.

The Stevie Ray is a great album, hardly any filler.

Still not as important as the Metallica though.

Waterboys - Goddamn they were good up to and including Fisherman's Blues. Room to Roam has some nice stuff, but is definitely the beginning of the end.
Big Country - What a debut! I'd never heard anything like it at the time, and still have my original vinyl copy.
Stevie Ray Vaughan - Baron's right - he doesn't get enough love around here, and I can see why, but he really was something else.
The The - although I'm with Ray: Burning Blue Soul is the true debut.

He really was. But album-wise... a bit patchy for me. Why doesn't BCB ever talk about him?

Introducing The Style Council.

The only one I have.

And know.
On the whole, I'd rather be in Wallenpaupack.

Because the only think BCB hates more than blues is blooze, which is how they misapprehend SRV and why I feel the need to stick up for him.

Sadly true. No matter how great something like 'Pride And Joy' is, many BCBers just hear the 'blooze'.
