Best to worst studio albums - Hendrix

Postby toomanyhatz » 18 Apr 2017, 07:07

OK, I slightly easier one. Keeping it to official releases conceived at least somewhat in the fashion they eventually appeared, I reckon it's something like this:

Electric Ladyland
Are You Experienced? (US version)
Are You Experienced? (UK version)
Axis: Bold as Love
BBC Sessions
Voodoo Soup
First Rays of the New RIsing Sun
Cry of Love
South Southern Delta

Yes, I know the last four duplicate a lot of the same material! But it is (at least mostly) material he probably would've released had he lived longer.

The BBC sessions are a bit of cheat, as most of it's 'live in the studio," but it has enough unique recordings that I think it's worth considering at least semi-official. Again, had he been around, he would likely have wanted it compiled pretty much like it was.

Any others I should be including?

Live Hendrix is where it's at, though.
Where would rock 'n' roll be without feedback?

Not a studio album.

And I'm not crazy about it, no. Far, far better live stuff came out since.

me too. I like "cry of love" a lot too.
I'm not saying I can summon up the brain power to rate it against the others, just that I like all the tunes. I think it's really punchy and lean.
