I don't have Eldorado and I got off the treadmill after Storytone, though if I see the last two in Fopp for for £5 or so...

In order of my preference, without respect to objective greatness . . .

1. After the Gold Rush (1970) This is the only one I would say unequivocally is the top of the heap.
2. On the Beach (1974)
3. Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere (1969)
4. Tonight's the Night (1973) (released 1975)
5. Ragged Glory (1990)
6. Zuma (1975)
7. Neil Young (1969)
8. Rust Never Sleeps (1979)
9. Comes a Time (1978)
10. Time Fades Away (1973)
11. American Stars 'n Bars (1977)
12. Harvest Moon (1992)
13. Mirror Ball (1995)
14. Sleeps with Angels (1994)
15. Harvest (1972)
16. Eldorado (1989)
17. Freedom (1989)
18. Broken Arrow (1996)
19. Trans (1982)

It's a tricky business, and more than a little arbitrary. It also understates how much fondness I have for records like the debut and Comes a Time and Stars and Bars.

The rest of them (listed below) I haven't spent enough time with to really evaluate in this way. They are left below.

Long May You Run (1976)
Hawks & Doves (1980)
Re-ac-tor (1981)
Everybody's Rockin' (1983)
Old Ways (1985)
Landing on Water (1986)
Life (1987)
This Note's for You (1988)
Silver & Gold (2000)
Are You Passionate? (2002)
Greendale (2003)
Prairie Wind (2005)
Living with War (2006)
Living with War: "In the Beginning" (2006)
Chrome Dreams II (2007)
Fork in the Road (2009)
Le Noise (2010)
Americana (2012)
Psychedelic Pill (2012)
A Letter Home (2014)
Storytone (2014)
The Monsanto Years (2015)

Tonight's The Night
Harvest
On The Beach
After The Goldrush
Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere
Zuma
American Stars and Bars
Comes a Time
Rust Never Sleeps

Clearly, he has moments on either side of this era, but this is what I tend to reach for.

(I wish he had put out a record every week or so between 1969-1978. He was constantly writing and recording and it was an undeniable hot streak)

(Edited to remove the - frankly stunning - Live At Massey Hall)

Top 3 by quite some distance:
After the Gold Rush (1970)
Rust Never Sleeps (1979)
Ragged Glory (1990)

Next 3:
Harvest (1972)
Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere (1969)
Freedom (1989)

I have time for:
Landing on Water (1986)
Harvest Moon (1992)
Trans (1982)

And the rest actually (somewhat surprisingly to me) fall into a heap, all much of a middling muchness!
I’ve been offered a position at cornerback for the Saints. If you’re reading, you have been offered a position too! Please accept the Saints’ offer because if you don’t,I’ll have to play alongside a cardboard cutout of Tracy Porter, a roomba and Cleatus.

Something like this:

After the Gold Rush (1970)
Harvest (1972)
On the Beach (1974)
Time Fades Away (1973)
American Stars 'n Bars (1977)
Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere (1969)
Ragged Glory (1990)
Tonight's the Night (1973) (released 1975)
Rust Never Sleeps (1979)
Mirror Ball (1995)
Zuma (1975)
Neil Young (1969)
Sleeps with Angels (1994)
Psychedelic Pill (2012)
Comes a Time (1978)

I know about five other albums and I'd rate them all here - the other more recent efforts I haven't been interested in (I suppose I might be missing out...)

I do not resist to make the pedantic statement that Time Fades Away is a live album, same as most of Rust Never Sleeps, although it is ok to put them here since both include only new material (as far as I know).

Anyway this is my list. I do like all of these albums, I have excluded those that I don't like, don't know or don't care about.

Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere (1969)
Tonight's the Night (1973) (released 1975)
Rust Never Sleeps (1979)
Ragged Glory (1990)
Sleeps with Angels (1994)
After the Gold Rush (1970)
Freedom (1989)
On the Beach (1974)
Harvest (1972)
Harvest Moon (1992)
Time Fades Away (1973)
Zuma (1975)
Chrome Dreams II (2007)
Prairie Wind (2005)
Comes a Time (1978)
Psychedelic Pill (2012)
American Stars 'n Bars (1977)
Long May You Run (1976)
Mirror Ball (1995)
Old Ways (1985)
Neil Young (1969)
Life (1987)
Broken Arrow (1996)
Silver & Gold (2000)
This Note's for You (1988)
Hawks & Doves (1980)
Nobody's ferpect.

Out of the albums I've heard, they'd be ranked way this:

Zuma (1975)
After the Gold Rush (1970)
Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere (1969)
On the Beach (1974)
Harvest (1972)
Tonight's the Night (1975)
Rust Never Sleeps (1979)

Also, I consider all of these at least very good albums, but the top three are excellent and what I believe to be his finest works. Then again, I should explore his discography more deeply.

Living with War is a bit of a duffer, but I love "Let's Impeach the President" and especially the clip on the CSNY doc.
Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Thanks, good to see we're so close on the Top 5 but after careful consideration I'm afraid that unable to move Goldrush up to the coveted No 1 spot.
There are four reasons for that:

Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere
Running Dry
The Losing End
Round & Round

I'm also unable to move Zuma due to a few lightweight songs though I have to admit I may have placed Ragged Glory a little high in that case. I'm prepared to overlook quite a lot though when I hear Country Home played at 11!!!
