There's a good deal of interesting stuff out this year but I've yet to hear something astonishing... or great... or even very good. Anyone else think it's a poor-year-so-far?

Ironic title? I waited all ten tracks for a song of note. Too much time on your hands, Dan

Marika Hackman's new album sounds pretty good to these ears so far - looks like she's about to make a bit of a breakthrough - Boyfriend is a pretty genius single (and i completely misinterpreted it on the first couple of listens which is usually a good thing in my book).

I don't think anything has knocked my socks off, but I haven't been putting much effort in.
Let U be the set of all united sets, K be the set of the kids and D be the set of things divided.
Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D

This is quite sweet and really engaging in places. Adrianne Lenker has a lovely voice.

It really is. I kind of imagine a young Leonard Cohen listening to Lou Reed at some point in 1970 and becoming totally consumed by him. Or is that just me!?

No, you're bang on, and along this Yellow Brick Road, he bumps into Jonathan Richman, the Ramones and Television as well.

Huh. This is the first year in ages where I've been discovering exciting new music as it happens. Seems to be a creative renaissance in the air.
Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.

That's one on my must listen list. Harlem River is a favorite of mine.

And dat ass.
It takes a big man to cry, but it takes a bigger man to laugh at that man.

New War On Drugs in August!

Ulrich Schnauss gives away his new EP for free...two tracks very much in the same style as Far Away Trains, one remix in line with his new employ in Tangerine Dream and one that wouldn't be out of line on a Jon Hopkins or Kiasmos-album...

I'm really enjoying this debut album from the Surfing Magazines (terrible name!), who are two-thirds of Wave Pictures and the bloke out of Slow Club. It's very cool guitar music, quite old-fashioned in a way. Some surf guitar stuff, some west-coast sixties sounding stuff, all very groovy. Kind of self-indulgent, but in a good way (I think).

Here's a track - https://soundcloud.com/moshimoshimusic/ ... -shadows-1
