It takes a big man to cry, but it takes a bigger man to laugh at that man.

I never know how to rate Katy Lied overall as it has perhaps my favourite Dan side (1) and least favourte (2) A game of two halves as they say. I'll take Gaucho on balance which I've loved since release. Who on BCB can fail to identfy with the hipster pathos of Hey Nineteen ? Still love Two AGainst Nature - The title track and Jack of Speed are Ace.

Once upon a time I entered a new country and met someone who was recommended as a contact. He liked Steely Dan and asked me which was my favourite album. I answered 'Katy Lied'. He became the best man at my wedding and has been a friend ever since.
I could be wrong. I usually am.

They were dissing Steely Dan on the Marc Maron podcast saying how it was overproduced and sterile. :x

I've determined that I don't particularly like any Steely Dan albums, but that I actively love 70% of their music.

They seemed to be experts at strategically placing the tracks that I don't love just where they need to be to make all of their albums a bit of a letdown for me.

Sometimes I agree and sometimes I don't.
I think "countdown", "pretzel logic" & "Aja" are all good, track by track, from beginning to end. The rest, I mostly agree. There's something that keeps me from loving them, from beginning to end as albums.

In which Rick Moranis, wearing his Michael McDonald beard, arrives just in time to sing the final verse, then hits the road and is on the freeway by the time the guitar solo ends:
