I started playing the video in the first post, and B asked, "what are you listening to? Kermit the Frog?", so I had to stop playing it.

They seem to be concentrating on Runt here, fair enough.

Ah.
Well, UNCUT loved it, but MOJO hated it.
So, erm....there you go.

I like them and basically like their stuff. I long for the day when they stop "seeing what they can do" and start writing classic material.

Yes.
The reviews for the latest album talk about 'channelling Todd Rundgren', and the like. But I'm pretty sure they don't get close.

Yeah, I've heard that before, and though they may get closer to TR's energy than many (New Radicals), it's never going to be a game you can win. You have to do your own thing -- influenced by Rundgren, 10cc, or whomever, but mainly just trying to write the best, most real songs you can.

Re: The Lemon Twigs
It's way better than Todd Rundgren or 10CC and it's all quite fun and a bit like a musical - definitely worth a listen if you can stream it for free. Something stopped me buying the 2LP version today, though.

I think there might be some talent there but where is the sense of self?

Yes just a pale copy of their forebears in the realm of rock musicals about chimpanzees
