It is as far as I'm concerned. Three bands I have a lot of time for (bought everything from all three at least into the middle 1980s), although I kind of think of the Undertones as a great pop group and the Damned as a garage psych band rather than punks. All three of them have several great singles, wrote some fine tunes (yes, even the Damned after Brian left) and generally added to the gaiety of nations.
I can't really choose between them, but in the end I went for the Undertones, not because their best stuff was better, but because the general standard was so high.

Toughie..

Clearly The Undertones are a very distant third.

If it's one album it's clearly the first The Dammed album.

But if it's collected songs of, it's clearly The Buzzcocks.....

Go with the collected songs.....

I'm in a minority's, but I think the Damned peaked with The Black Album and Strawberries. MGE is also excellent. Definitely my pick.

I was really into the Buzzcocks as a teen, but the love didn't last.
Heyyyy!

Buzzcocks are great, the last lp was storming. But I can't deny the Damned. They still cut it live as well. Machine Gun Etiquette is one of the greatest things ever.

One of the great U.K. hard rock records.
It takes a big man to cry, but it takes a bigger man to laugh at that man.

Comes down to this:
Another Music in a Different Kitchen (1978) Love Bites (1978) A Different Kind of Tension (1979) Singles Going Steady vs. Damned Damned Damned (1977) Music for Pleasure (1977) Machine Gun Etiquette (1979) The Black Album (1980)...slight edge to Buzzcocks, but very close...

I've just given The Undertones a vote because I think they're unjustly underappreciated.
The Damned are the least interesting of the three for me. They make me think of roadies throwing beer over each other.

There are great hard rock records?

Yes!

(where were you when I needed backup for a similar point I made a couple of weeks ago?)

They're all great. I guess I have to vote for Buzzcocks--haven't clicked yet. Will it reveal that no one's for the Undertones?

Too bad, they're great too. I just found Hypotised at a thrift store, which brought me back--it's pretty lovable.

I didn't realise The Undertones were not widely known/ listened to here. Our pals band played here last week and they did Teenage Kicks and I looked around to find nobody at all singing along. When we were talking about this later they said they played it for me in the knowledge I would be the only person who knew it, which really doesn't feel right. US punks, please explain yourselves!

Also, it wasn’t a particularly “punk” audience.

"Teenage Kicks" and "Here Comes the Summer" were both often on the radio (college) when I was a kid in the Bay Area, late 1970s.
