Ta for the instructions Feeb, much appreciated. I'm pleased to say I completed the lion's share of my track today, with the help of my cousin Danny on guitar. We're going to add a bit of cello and e-bow early next week and then it's done and dusted so I hope to finish before Weds next week.

So I'm almost at the finish line with my cover of 'I Can't Give Everything', this is me on vocals and acoustic, my cousin Danny on most guitars, our pal Mark engineering and adding bits and pieces like cello, textures, cymbals etc. Feeb, I'll have a WAV file of the final mix to you by early next week (got to go away for a couple of days) but I wanted to share a Work in Progress with you guys 'cause it's the best recording I've ever been part of and I'm feeling pretty chuffed. Thanks loads for organising this tribute project and giving me a reason to get off my arse and do some proper work in a studio for the first time in my life. I know this cover has smoothed off some of the edges of the original but we tried to capture what it felt like for us to hear Bowie had gone.

It really does, great work! It was a bit of a coup to get George Harrison to play some slide guitar on that!

I have fond hopes of getting an initial banjo part down this weekend.

If that's not a euphemism then I give up.

You'll have to wait and see.

Cheers Harvey and Bhoywonder, ta for the thumbs up. Yeah it makes a difference having such a great guitar player in the family! My cousin Dan can play anything with strings pretty much. Maybe I should get him back in for a banjo part!

Sendspace very much still exists. I still use it for stuff like this. The free account has a limit of 300MB, so unless you're sending a version of all of the entirely of Stage performed by you, it should be good.

No offence to anyone who has posted a tune, I can't wait to hear them but I would like to wait until a few more are done and then listen to them altogether. I can't wait!

This is astoundingly good, and I'm really glad we have some well-done representations of Bowie's music after his "golden years" (especially since it is, by far, my favorite Blackstar track). Special kudos to whoever engineered/ recorded this, because it sounds truly ace. Now all we need is a couple of early Bowie tracks to balance things out... er... anybody wanna attempt "The Laughing Gnome"?

Anyway, dropbox info is on its way, Harry.

Excellent news. Was that your first time actually recording? I bet it was a blast (but always hard work, of course, but satisfying!). Also, you're in good hands with Jim doing the post-production work, but the important thing is: were you able to get any Xeroxes of Quaco's butt? I have an empty bulletin board just thirsting for them! :P

So we're a third of the way there, 6 completed out of 18 means 12 to go.

I feel your pain, man. I'm also having major problems with "Panic In Detroit". I can't get the beat to sound like it sounds inside my head and it's driving me nuts. Also, that middle section has some fucked up chords that I can't seem to figure out at all (damn you, Ronno!). I've started and aborted it three times and I'm thinking I'm just going to have to put it aside for a week or two and come back to it. Or maybe I'll petition the sky: Help me David!

Fortunately, "Always Crashing In The Same Car" was super easy and extremely fun. I finished it in two quick sessions.

Mike Boom just sent me his tracks, which means that we have hit the thirty minute mark on this- a half-hour's worth of tracks are done n dusted. It sounds pretty great so far. Keep 'em coming' folks. If anyone needs Dropbox info, just PM me. Dropbox is working brilliantly.

Also, don't forget that if you have ambient noises or a period of silence at the beginning or end of your track, we can edit those out at your request.

The May "deadline" (   ) has passed us by. But despite not hitting that idealistic benchmark, we're doing pretty well, and the quality of many of the tracks so far is surprisingly pro and listenable (not to mention quite inspired overall). Apparently, a lot of us have better recording situations than we did back in 2007-2008 when we did the BCB Ziggy Stardust tribute.

Speaking of Ziggy Stardust, today we're adding an epic version of "Moonage Daydream" by the inscrutable Buddha Ben and his friends. It's a fucking blastout JAM, folks. I listened to it twice today, and now I need a haircut. That's how heavy it is!

So, we're getting there. Let's try to get those golden sounds polished up soon. Alright!

Oops, I didn't read the thread too well I guess. I thought there was "no deadline". I will get on it.
