Unbelievable. Sad, shocking news. There'll never be another like him.

You know that bit in Star Wars after Alderaan gets blown up and Obi Wan falls back in his chair and says, "I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror..."? That's pretty much how I feel today.

How the hell are we supposed to live in a world without David Bowie?

My thoughts exactly.

The 2 second harmonica quote from "A New Career in a new town" at the start of "I can't give everything away" was just enough to make me tear up. Gonna have to avoid listening to any more of his music at work today.

I don't know what to say - the man and his music meant so much to me when I was young, and the power of that music hasn't diminished one bit through the years. I'm really, truthfully stunned by the news and sad beyond words. I'm going to have to keep my head down at work today and try to avoid the internet. This could be tough.
RIP David.
RIP David.

A class act. The guy puts out a new album, waits for the BCB review (largely thumbs up) and then pops off.
This takes some getting through.

I can't help thinking of the photos that emerged last month of him smiling and looking well at the premiere of the 'Lazarus' play...

Terribly sad, of course. And thanks for the great music that you made.
But, and nearly as important, thanks for all the great music you championed. Thanks for the careers that you helped to resurrect. What would have happened to Iggy without the release of Raw Power, Mott the Hoople without All The Young Dudes, Lou Reed without Transformer. I'm sure they all would have found some way to move forward but it was Bowie's name and cache that helped to get them signed to label deals and played on the radio and gut their names in print. And these were outsider artists who might have otherwise been pushed aside.
Thanks for caring about the music. R.I.P.

Rest In Peace.
My wife is in tears over this. It's amazing how he kept his private life private, his recording activities, health issues, everything. He exploited the power of the media brilliantly and then kept it at bay.

Thankfully working for home today. It didn't hit me straight away until I saw a post elsewhere about someone hearing Absolute Beginners then breaking down. Made me dig the song out and google the lyrics. THATS what got me.

My son had a row with his girlfriend about this earlier, because she couldn't see what the fuss was about.
He's got a bit of making up to do when he gets up tonight.

Or she does. I don't understand why anyone would challenge or berate someone's grief over the death of a well-loved public figure.

Re: David Bowie RIP
Statement from Tony Visconti...
'He always did what he wanted to do. And he wanted to do it his way and he wanted to do it the best way. His death was no different from his life - a work of Art. He made Blackstar for us, his parting gift. I knew for a year this was the way it would be. I wasn't, however, prepared for it. He was an extraordinary man, full of love and life. He will always be with us. For now, it is appropriate to cry.'

I do like the picture the Pixies chose to post on twitter....mostly because Frank Black looks like he's been wandering round trying to find that plumbing he should be fixing.
