Another bizarre Bowie dream. I occasionally have these dreams where I’m looking after him in his last days. I don’t have to do anything except give him diamorphine and help him paint.

David Bowie RIP

Very sad news.

I only have one David Bowie album but knew he was a musical genius. So many great songs by perhaps the greatest musical artist of our time.

Hard to believe.

Even harder to forget given all of the other awful shit (deaths! Brexit! Trump!)
that subsequently happened during that most awful of years.

Doubt we will see anyone quite like Bowie again. Hope we never see another 12 months
like 2016 either; though sad to say I'm sure we will.

Genuinely scary how fast the years start screaming past as we grow older.

I was on a drive today where the road was so busy I couldn’t fuck about with the dial. This came on and I was saying why? Why? WHY? Loudly to myself only to find these fuckers are playing in Austin and they have SOLD OUT! You might quite like it. I do not.

In other news, Jon Langford painted a beautiful Bowie portrait for me birthday. We’ve been plotting it for some time and it arrived yesterday, to say I’m over the moon is an understatement.

Cool. I like Langford's work. Not a bad musician either!

I haven't listened to Blackstar in a year. In fact, now seems like the WORST time to try and rectify that!

Listened to this on SDE, sounded okay but definitely not as good as the original.

There was a Bowie tribute led by Mike Garson on Saturday night (and available for 24 subsequent hours). Compared to the BBC tribute a few years ago, which was quite serious and po-faced, this one was really quite good - lively, fun and diverse, and I'm quite surprised they were able to put this all together virtually so well. A really tight band, part of which being Zoomed in, marshalled by Garson, and some nice reimagining of certain songs (like Win and surprise version of Slaughter on 10th Avenue). Of course some inevitable misses here and there, but Garson really put something pretty unique together - Corey Glovers Young Americans, Catherine Russel's Conversation Piece, Gail Ann Dorsey's Strangers When We Meet all really worked really well. Hope it comes it out as a standalone programme at some point. (I do wonder what caused the event to be delayed by 24 hrs - it was supposed to be done on Friday. Although they cited COVID, it seemed from Garson's statement that it was more to do with the troubles in DC, which I wonder how it would impact this kind of event).

Tribute . Cringe fests in my book. The best way to remember Bowie or anyone really is to watch/listen to him/them.
I know people mean well but it turns people's work into something akin to a big gypsy funeral.
