Oh I'm a big fan of sunshine pop. I love highly arranged, melodic music with a hint of strangeness and The Association do that better than anyone. I probably posted a lot more about that side of my tastes a few years ago though. I'm no expert on their catalogue, but I felt they should be represented.

The Associates are not of those acts from the eighties that have stayed with me (most haven't). I think they made really unique records. BCB still needs to assess the eighties properly, it's a decade the board has struggled with traditionally, with the result that often bands like The Associates are often overlooked.

Lots of the artists mentioned in the last thread appeared in the first 130.

There is - at least - one glaring omission I can think of that no one appears to
have mentioned in any of the lists to date.

Anyone care to hazard a guess as to who it might be?


Oh and if no one wants to write up the Only Ones and we decide to go ahead with this, you
may as well put me down for them although doubt very much whether will wait until next

The Associates are not of those acts from the eighties that have stayed with me (most haven't). I think they made really unique records. BCB still needs to assess the eighties properly, it's a decade the board has struggled with traditionally.

It's remarkable to me how little is written here about post-punk, rave and other music I associate with the 1980s. As that was a decade when I was single, often flush and living just down the road from Rough Trade, I go quite deep.
And on this thread, while the Durannies and Human League are on, there's no OMD, say, Culture Club, Soft Cell, Suicide, Madonna, Two Tone...
