not the BCB 130

Postby naughty boy » 17 Dec 2014, 21:37

As YY appears to be falling into its usual torpor once again, with some of the most pointless threads we've seen in a while, I was just wondering if there was an appetite for another series where less 'canon', but still loved artists were discussed.

I was thinking about bands like Shack, West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band, Royal Trux, MBV, Gentle Giant, The Only Ones, MGMT, The Creation, Swans, Link Wray and the Raymen, Gong, Pearls Before Swine, Pylon, The Shins. Or singers like Karen Dalton, Taj Mahal, Joanna Newsom, Dusty Springfield, Hank Williams, Bjork, Randy Newman, Cat Stevens....oh, I don't fucking know!

Vote 'yes' if you're interested and add some nominations of your own. We could kick this one off shortly after Xmas.

Sigur Ros would be a good choice for this, too.

I propose we put together a long list first, then after a week or so people can volunteer to discuss any artists they're knowledgeable and/or enthusiastic about.

Any artists left 'unclaimed' by January 1st, we just drop.

Amon Düül II
Belle and Sebastian
Bjork
The Creation
Gentle Giant
Gong
MBV
MGMT
Mudhoney
Randy Newman
Red Krayola
Shack
Sigur Ros
The Sonics
Cat Stevens
Swans
Swell Maps
Gene Vincent
West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band
Hank Williams
Link Wray

I would totally do Gene Vincent. (I would've done him for the original 130, but I wanted to be fair to Zphage in case he was ever going to actually follow through on it. God knows why.)

I'd also love to do the Minutemen, Kevin Ayers and Robert Wyatt.

We should also have Elliot Smith.

Yikes, hatz, you beast, you!

Are any non-American or non-European artists welcome this time around? I mean, it's specifically NOT the BCB 130, so are our exclusionary canon-setting policies still in place?
Let U be the set of all united sets, K be the set of the kids and D be the set of things divided.
Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D

Add any artists you want to the list - just copy and paste. If someone's willing to talk about someone, then that's all we need. The sky's the limit, as we're not considering anything 'canon'.
