what about Osibisa?
I was at the Osibisa one which was much more 'the Dawn' than it was 'Sunshine Day'. It was a refreshing eye/ear opener at the time and thoroughly original with their blending of African and Western sounds and rhythms - all very new to me aged18.
Very cool, Footy!
Let U be the set of all united sets, K be the set of the kids and D be the set of things divided.
Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D
Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D

Tyrannosaurus Rex 12 Sep 1970
The second time I had seen them - they were moving towards their electric phase and no longer sitting cross-legged on the floor (for the whole gig!)
It was at the time of the release of their finest album A Beard of Stars
The venue is a long rectangular shape in the landscape positon regarding the stage so longer than wide. The venue was packed and my mates and I were standing in our usual postion on the back wall centre stage.
Still just Bolan and Finn at this stage - they walked across form the changing rooms no more than two feet from us.
I said 'how you doing Marc man..?'
He said 'not so good today man, I've cut my finger and I am worried about how it will effect my guitar playing'
Me: 'don't worry man you and Mickey will be great'
They were better than great...they were awesomely robust
Yes, awesomely robust

This was an interesting one. Very few people had heard of them.
The venue was virtually empty by usual 'heaving' standards
The band came on - they started with Reaching Out on All Sides, which as many of you know starts with a building guitar intro from Terry Smith - WOW!!!
It blew me a way
[Twice winner of the Melody Maker Music Polls, Smith spent the early 1960s playing with the Tony Lee Trio, before becoming Scott Walker's musical director and accompanying The Walker Brothers on their Japan tour in 1968. Returning to the UK, he recorded a solo album, Fall Out (1968), which was produced by Scott Walker, and backed by UK jazz musicians of the day such as Kenny Wheeler, Les Condon, Ronnie Ross, Ronnie Stephenson, Gordon Beck, Ron Mathewson, Chris Karan, and Ray Warleigh.]
If blew me away - they were phenomenal - JW's vocals
and those horns.......!
AWESOMELY ROBUST!
Sadly, very few thought the same - they didn't go down very well at all

Have you heard it, C? (Or anyone else?) Sounds promising. I see Sunbeam has reissued it.

I saw them at the Dagenham Roundhouse once, in a supporting role, (I must check the gig list - I didn't notice them mentioned). One of the brothers explained at length how their name arose and was formed - it is not just 'Goldring' backwards (obviously!) - some other letters form the other blokes... (I must look at that too)
- bloody 'ell I just checked - supporting Taste!! Taste support Gnidrolog 13 Jun 1970
I recall they were pretty mediocre....

Derek and the Dominos 1 Aug 1970
What a night!
The first night of the first ever UK tour
Jim Gordon on tubs with Eric regularly spraying his mouth complaining about his vocal chords....
LAYYYYY-LAAAA!
Until today, I didn't realise that I had seen them live (August) before the release of the album (December)

Sam Apple Pie 12 Jul 1969
A very tidy little band from east London - with a great name (one of the band had a shop or their parents did in my neighbourhood)
They played the first Glastonbury in 1970!
Frank Zappa also jammed with them once - I can't recall where
I can only remember one album which is worth a listen (great cover too)

Stevie was magical
I don't remember the gig that well except Walk on Gilded Splinters which was a track that my mates said was awesomely robust that I missed because I was in the bog...
(Yes, a 10 minute visit to the WC owing to a slight stomach malfunction.....)
Let's ROCK FOOTY
