excellent metaphor!
It's kinda depressing for a music forum to be proud of not knowing musicians.

Ah bollocks, it's Friday afternoon and I'm trying to catch up on my workload, but as usual I end up flicking through Joy Division rarities on youtube.

This version of "Atrocity Exhibition" wouldn't have fit on Closer, but it's much better, in my view. Much more aggressive, less numbing.

Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.

I'm reading that Peter Hook book about their early days. It's engaging stuff.

The biggest revelation is that he had to play high notes on his bass guitar because the low notes sounded like shit through the amp he bought (off his old school teacher!). Funny how something that becomes so emblematic was born out of basic necessity.

Yeah, I liked that book, there's some odd passages (Margi Clarke's tits, always referring to Caroline Aherne as Mrs Merton), but Hooky's obviously quite self-aware that he might actually be a bit of a cunt, and not a particularly reliable one.

Definitely not Goth.
Not Beatles either - better producer, for a start.
