Andrews Sisters conundrum

The Andrews Sisters were the most successful female vocal group of the first half of the 20th century, and belong in every respectable collection. Problem is to find the original recordings.

Most of their work is pre 52, in mono.
But some of their songs were rechannelled into stereo in the LP era.
And - in the fifties and later they rerecorded some of their songs in stereo.

That's all very well, but browsing 50 pages of the Sisters on amazon is a most bewildering experience. If you want the original mono's, be prepared to pay the price and look out for the labels. Capitol is probably the safest choice.

If any of you have any suggestions for the original mono recordings, they would be most appreciated!

OK dude, I sometimes enjoy your off the wall musical notes but asking us for advice on collecting the Andrews Sisters after you have already detailed "how to collect the Andrews Sisters" is over the top.

If you have any specific recommendations for mono recordings. I'm sitting here with a stereo cd, and it isn't good enough.

Jasmine label might be worth a go? They're normally quite good with 'old stuff'

The Golden Age of the Andrews Sisters - The Unmistakable Voices Of The Swing Era

Possibly bit expensive, though, for something of that ilk!

Supposedly, the original mono recordings

See here: Footlight description

Don't know about Capitol or boots, but all of their hits were on U.S. Decca.

I can't say I miss him exactly, no. He annoyed me more than he entertained me. But I didn't think he was a bad sort.

What I do miss are the BCB scraps that he caused.

I thought he was great and find the re-emergence of this thread particularly ironic after all of Coan's "work" this weekend.

"Great" is a bit strong ... but I did have a soft spot for the charity store shoppin', street-doobie smokin' motherfunker. He was a one-of-a-kind.

Zilth Pilchards

Anyway, I wish the Sisters had put out a psychedelic rock record called The Andrews Sisters Conundrum
