Amazing band.

A sad loss.
RIP Tim

Have played this a few times in the last couple of days:

Glorious.
One of my favourite tracks, ever.

Phantom's Divine Comedy - Part 1

Image

1974 release by a short-lived band from Michigan. The band sounds like a Doomy version of The Doors and the singer sounds like a cross between Jim Morrison and Danzig and the music eschews any kind of true sophistication or substance in favor of creatively distorted guitars and lyrics about Satan and wizards, so basically this is the kind of stuff I live for.

I have that album too, the only one by him I own. I bought it because Dave Alvin has covered him and I’ve heard musicians perform his music live. I was a little disappointed In the album and consequently haven’t returned to it much.

I’ve been on an Emmylou Harris kick tonight. So far it’s been these.

Elite Hotel
Quarter Moon In A Ten Cent Town
Evangeline
Bluebird
I have the expanded Live At the Ryan set released maybe five years ago on vinyl too which may go on next. So many good songs and the artists that play on her albums are top shelf.

Over the years I’ve spent more time with his Live in Phoenix record. It’s all a little earnest/non blues folky for me. But every so often there’s a steel guitar number.

Gillian Welch - Lost Songs Vol.1
Down load but no other choice at the moment. I haven’t made it through the entire set yet but nothing has really clicked as something special but maybe that’s why they’ve been lost. Still, it is very good imo and worth the 13 bucks I spent. I don’t have much music on my iPad so it’s nice to have some things to listen to in rare situations where it is the most convenient option.

An entertaining Secret Records sampler disc I got as a freebie. Very eclectic mix: Human League, Echo, Animals, original Fleetwood Mac, Bert Jansch, Toy Dolls doing a hilarious version of "The Final Countdown," The Fall, the lead singer of Georgia Satellites, Napalm Death, and more.

Oh yeah! My favoritealbum by them these days when it comes to playing time. It ends up in my dj sets a lot especially The Great Curve. I’m going to be doing a set at t he end of the month at my friend’s cider place. I’m really looking forward to it.
