Finding a cover image for this on Google was a nightmare so I resorted to RYM.

On a Yoshida Tatsuya kick by any chance, Joel? I went mad for his stuff for a while, but somehow never feel in that mood any more.
Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.

Yeah, I’ve been diving deeper into his work. I love Kōenjihyakkei the most. I find them more consistent than Ruins, but there’s much to appreciate about that project as well, especially the album posted above.

Trepaneringsritualen - Perfection & Permanence

Badly recorded drones and clanging with the occasional sounds of someone fellating the microphone. It's like black metal but with the guitars replaced with grating electronics. Sure to be the next BCB obsession.

Amon Tobin - Bricolage

I've not listened to this in years. “Easy Muffin” still sounds as sumptuous as ever, like it was made for Endtroducing.

I'm still on my avant-prog kick. This one had some interesting moments and the musicianship is certainly superb, but it left me feeling somewhat cold overall. Still recommended, though.

It may have been decades since I dusted this off.

On Youtube, there's a vinyl rip and a CD remaster. They sound absolutely nothing alike. Guess which is better.

Maybe someone can explain why this album is supposedly so brilliant because I’m not seeing it. I guess there are some eclectic and haunting passages which provide some interesting atmosphere, but this album mostly came off as a forced and rather tacky to me. Plus, the vocals are rubbish.

Not their most popular album and Alex Lifeson's guitar seemed to be losing out to synths and sequencers in the mix. But with the exception of of 'Tai Shan' this album is win. Alex is playing his socks off if you listen out for him. The guitar tone is great, less brittle than on P/G but still has that icy 'archilles last stand' quality about it. I love the clarity he got using active pickups - how the signal detail survives the delay and chorus chains, out Edging the Edge. 'Time Stand Still' with Aimee Mann is certainly something different for Rush, 'Lock and Key' and 'Turn The Page' have a classic Alex solo's, yep today is Rush day.

A freebie CD of minimal electronic stuff on the Raster Norton label, that came with an issue of The Wire donkey's years ago. COH, Ryoji Ikeda, that kinda thing. Antidote to the 70s.
