Some kind of Zola Jesus/Pharmakon/Diamanda Galas kind of thing going on here. Could be interesting.

That sounds excellent. I'm giving it a listen now.

I'm in awe. She's brilliant.

It was completely unexpectedly brilliant, I thought. It was reviewed in The Wire, given a decent review but something about it made it sound like it could've been my kind of thing. Soon as I finished listening, I ordered the CD. What a voice.

And on the more commercial end of the spectrum, but also stuff I listened to on youtube then decided to buy. Love the paired-down home-recorded ESG-y effortlessness of this. Norwich is THE place for urban cool...

Latest from the atrociously named Oneohtrix Point Never. Bloke in HMV warned me that it was very difficult going, so hopefully there's something of interest.

That's incredibly dull. I like bendy electronics and soundscapes plenty but this album goes nowhere fast. There's also something about that flat vaporwave sound which annoys me a lot. It aims for cold detachment but instead falls short into plain blandness.

I didn't mind it, to be honest, though I've only listened to once the whole way through. I quite like the baroque strings, and I just don't have as much bleepy stuff as you do :-)

Goddamn, her version of "Bad Boys" is up there with the very best covers I've heard. She takes the original, destroys it, and rebuilds it in a style completely her own. The rest of the album ain't too shabby either.

Live album, which I've actually got as disc 3 of the reissue of the superb Eligible Bachelors. Not sure they actually play anything very different live, but I guess listening to the tracks in a different order is cool, too.

I take it Lingua Ignota is a hit with you, then :-) I know I'm in the office pretty much on my own for most of next week, so I might just be youtubing as much of her stuff as I can get.

A very big hit with me. I'm hugely impressed and after reading a few articles and interviews with her I'm also quite inspired considering the harsh and sad reasons she's making this music.

Her live performances on YouTube are as fantastic as the studio recordings.

I Hate Models - Warehouse Memories

The most vicious industrial techno I've heard since British Murder Boys. Lovely.

Daniel Avery - Song For Alpha

This is basically Selected Ambient Works Volume III. Take Aphex Twin's first two volumes and apply a bit of Chain Reaction-style minimal techno to them and you have this.

Probably one of his more accessible and straight up blues rock record. I definitely prefer the more unhinged version of Beefheart but this one still has some charm to it. 3/5 overall.

It's only been a couple of days since Fish introduced me to this but I think I've already listened to it at least five times and considering how painful and brutal it is that's really saying how much I love this. It's the best album I've heard since the similar Abandon by Pharmakon or Swans' To Be Kind.
