Current 93 - The Light is Leaving us All

First proper listen, having bought it yesterday in that London, on white vinyl.
Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.

Pretty much like you said. It might well be the best C93 album in some time, it feels like their most coherent, solid work in ages. And might just be missing an absolute killer track or two to lift it into the top echelons of their back-catalogue. I reckon I'll give it plenty time to sink in, and see how I feel about it in a couple of months. Not sure I have any idea what Tibet is singing about anymore. Wonder if he does?

Another purchase from that London. I've never even seen a copy of this before, so despite knowing it's not as good as the follow-up, Disease, it kind of had to be purchased.

I can agree with that. Maybe the absolute killer tracks will reveal themselves with repeated listenings but everything on it is pretty damn good.

Everyone always says “Rhubarb” (disc 1, track 3) is the best. I love it but I'd put “Blue Calx” (track 1, disc 2) as the finest moment from this.

This is like the Tago Mago of avant-metal. The first disc is full of noisy improvs mixed in with some heavy grooves, while the second disc goes into infernal ritualistic ambient pieces. A strange combination, but it works quite well and it's the best I've heard from PainKiller.

I think Radiator and Domino are probably my favourites. Two similar themes on melancholic warped ice-cream van jingles.

I think “Radiator” is genuinely creepy. It's like something you'd hear on one of those numbers stations.

Speaking of something that sounds like an experimental radio broadcast...
