I must be out of my brilliant mind.
Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.

Townes Van Zandt - Live At The Old Quarter, Houston, Texas (Tomato)
My first TVZ and still my favorite. Most of his best songs are all here, live and simple, just him and his guitar.

Joe Ely - Down On The Drag (MCA)
With the late and great Jesse Taylor on guitar plus Ponty Bone and Lloyd Maines on accordian and pedal steel respectively. Joe has been pretty consistent in his career. I haven't seen him perform in a long time. Way over due.

Ry Cooder - the Borderline (Reprise)
God I love you this album. The Girls In Texas, Crazy About An Automobile are worth the price of admission.

Ry Cooder - Get Rhythm (Reprise)
Another superb album by Ry. So many good songs on this one. The title track by Johnny Cash is a joy. Flaco Jimenez is a god amongst accordian players. He and Ry had a special relationship. I saw them at the Great American Music Hall for one of the two shows they used to make the Corridos Famosos album and I thought to myself, "this could probably be the last time I see these two together, savor it." I'm not sure which tracks were from the second night which I attended except for one. He tried Vigilante Man the first night but the guitar blew up the amp. The lap steel pickup on the guitar was too much for the amp so they abandoned it until the next night with another amp. It was a harrowing version with a darkness necessary to pull the song off with any kind of authenticity and few living people can even do that. I was standing three feet away from him in total awe and reverance.

WP Cannonball Adderley with The Poll Winners (Riverside) orig. stereo lp
NP Nat Adderley - Work Song (Riverside) orig. mono lp
The pollwinners album is a really good sounding live lp from 1960. Work Song is a standard of course but the whole album is great. Bobby Timmons is the definition of soul.

PALE SAINTS Comfort of Madness
I’m pretty much all in on Team Shoegaze, but this was remarkably insipid. Or something like that.

In Ribbons is a real grower, I love Ride's version of Sight of You from the first album too,
