It seems to be all about Asia:

Which is surprising, as the last time I went into an HMV, their selection of shiny 80's prog-pop CDs was very poor.

The HMVs in Hong Kong are rubbish. Hardly any music at all. Not been to this new big one in Causeway Bay though. This is the first I've heard of it.

I just ordered the special edition Blu-rays of Point Blank and Chinatown on their website for 25 quid the pair. They sent me this email minutes ago:

Dear hmv Customer,

We are contacting you with regards to the below item:

Chinatown (hmv Exclusive) – Blu-Ray

I regret to inform you that, due to a manufacturing error, the item that has been dispatched from our warehouse is incomplete. Please be advised that the booklet that was meant to be included with the item has regretfully been omitted. Apologies for any disappointment caused.

In order for us to resolve this matter, our suppliers have managed to singularly source the booklet and will dispatch this to your delivery address at the first available opportunity. We hope to have the booklets arrive with you very shortly.

On behalf of store.hmv.com I’d like to apologise for any disappointment caused as a result of this. Should you have any further enquiries, please feel free to contact us.

Kind regards,

Customer Service Team

I like that.

And whenever I go in an HMV today, the shops are always well stocked and the staff are really helpful.

They're never exactly busy tho' are they? How did they manage to get back on their feet?

Since I wrote I have visited a few times and it's actually not bad. HMV seem to have abandoned their many shite stores and concentrated on having just a couple of big ones in the city that actually have a relatively decent stock, even if most of it seems to be vinyl. They are still a bit pricey though.
