How did I not know until just now that this even happened? And that I could have been there?

Also a fantastic show at the Royal Festival Hall. Norwegian Wind Ensemble joined him on stage.

...umm, do tell! Any guests from Frank's band? What tunes did they play? Anything along the lines of Peaches En Regalia, The Black Page, Zoot Allures, that sort of stuff. I saw FZ in 1984 during a six-night stand at The Palace in Hollywood. Tickets were $20, first time someone finally broke that glass ceiling. I knew someone who went all six nights. I thought that was insane, but not anymore. They played for over two hours and never stopped once. And he was playing a lot of guitar by then, stuff like Stucco Homes and Variations On The Carlos Santana Secret Chord Progression. But that was with Vinnie, and it was Chad by this time, so more like the stuff on the second Guitar set. For the encore, he brought out 14-yeat-old Dweezil for a duet on Sharleena.

Great list. Almost nothing post-1970s. I love when he throws in those quotes from other songs - on the Barcelona 1988 video, they do the "My Sharona" riff once during Ravel's Bolero, and the horns in Bamboozled By Love play the "Owner Of A Lonely Heart" riff during the guitar solo. Then there was that "We're gonna go Hawaiian" jingle from the Hawaiian Punch ads with Donny and Marie Osmond that fixated him for a couple years, he got plenty of use out of that one.

No one's going to mention this? All of the performances used to make the Roxy album. Seven discs.

Superb!

My friend Ted just returned from a visit to the Bay Area. He and his friends went to a place called The Saloon, the oldest bar in San Francisco ("It's over a hundred years old," he says, "and smells like it"). There was an old r&b singer named Clay Lawson performing there, and though he only had a pick-up band, Ted says they were really great.

The bass player was Roy Estrada.

So I guess he's out of prison.

If that's true, then so much for "25 years without parole." That's really disturbing.
