Absolved for Sultans of Swing and a few of the other early ones.

No way.

With that measure Queen should get off for Seven Seas Of Rye as well.

I prefer the faster live version from Live Killers

The notion that they are the worst major band ever from these shores is risible nonsense

He's right.
I'm not too big on Queen but don't sell yourselves short, guys. You've done much worse.

A big-selling band? I can't think of a better example than Queen.

Maybe one of those moody 90s indie bands that followed in Oasis' wake. But they were hardly massive.

Name one. (NB, The Style Council are not, nor have ever been, a major band ;) )

6 Coldplay !!
7 Dave Clark Five !!!!
8 Deep Purple
9 Depeche Mode
10 Dire Straits
11 Fleetwood Mac
12 Genesis
13 Iron Maiden
14 Pet Shop Boys
15 Status Quo
16 The Who

UB40
Simply Red (I'd imagine)
Mumford & Sons
fucking U2 if we're counting Irish shores
Bush
Genesis is a pretty good shout
Sure, Coldplay too

I'd rather listen to Queen than any of these. I guess I like some U2, they might get a pass.

You'd be wrong. Did some decent singles and "Money's Too Tight..." was a really good cover.

Pink Floyd post Syd are far worse for starters.

Coldplay, Deep Purple, Dire Straits, iron Maiden etc

Queen are a strong flavour which is why they inspire both hatred and devotion.

Definitely. It's why I, a real fan, don't just "not care for" their poorer efforts, I hate them!

Dave Clark Five's place on that biggest selling acts lists is almost certainly based on sales figures Dave Clark pulled out of his arsehole.

Strange as it may seem, they were fucking HUGE in the US - for a couple years, anyway - and released a lot more product here than in their home country.

I remember Guy E. relating that you were either a Beatles fan or Dave Clark fan when he was growing up in the early/mid sixties.

It kinda astounded me, but they did have a good run of singles.

Check out their various greatest hits releases down the decades. The front sleeve will often have some blurb about how many records the band have sold globally. Here, I'll do it for you.

Talk about overcompensating for something.

The record in the middle is a reissue which came out in 1993, and the final record was released in 2008. A further 50 million units shifted in that period? Yeah, right. Odd man though, Dave Clark.

The rumour is his face melted due to spending too long on the sunbed after plastic surgery.
