I was having lunch today at Austin Grill and heard TWO Counting Crows songs... or maybe it was one Counting Crows song and one Counting Crows Wannabe song. Insufferable then, insufferable now.

It got me thinking (again) about starting a "shit bands/artists and the great bands/artists who influenced them" thread. Counting Crows is like if Van Morrison and Bruce Springsteen had a child and spent the rest of their lives throwing up their hands and saying "Where did we go wrong??"

Maybe if the Counting Crows dropped the first 'o' we'd have more of an idea about what to expect.
You come at the Queen, you best not miss.

Just repeating this here. It is the one and only answer. Makes Counting Crows sound like the fucking Stones.

Interesting idea for a thread! As Renoir says "The awful thing about life is that everyone has their reasons." The world is filled with good intentions done badly.

There were large numbers of third-rate Bowie imitators knocking about in the 80s. I almost started a thread but there are people here who actually defend Psychedelic Furs albums.

I still haven't heard this undoubted insult to the ears. It's a badge of pride.

I only know the Steve Earle "Galway Girl" (with the Pogues, so of course I love it). Glad you weren't talking about that one (hopefully I assume correctly).

No wonder Taylor dropped her drawers.

You can see the lead singer courtside at every Golden State Warriors game. He grew up and went to UC Berkeley.

I'm ashamed that Adam Durwitz is a Bay Area native. There are some bands I like that are similar to Counting Crows. Del Amitri and the Wallflowers. I can see why people don't like that earnest take on roots/country rock though.

I was watching the Live Lounge thing on BBC4 last night - entirely against my will - and Pink specifically mentioned 4 Non Blonds' What's Up as an influence.... Which tells you all you need to know about Pink.
I've been talking about writing a book - 25 years of TEFL - for a few years now. I've got it in me.

Well, I’ve just endured two ‘songs’ (sub-Nick Cave indie rock mitherings) by The National.

One of my best mates, who normally has fairly bulletproof music taste, insists they're genius, best band currently going. And I can't see it. At all.

They're so fucking BORING.
