Boring hippy wankers who went on for about eighteen decades longer than they should have, or the most exciting punk band of all?

Hmm.....

Not even worthy of a debate
The Rolling Stones Complete Mp3 set now available in the usual place, should you want one.

Floyd, because of their 67-71 run. Love both, though.

I go a bit longer, but, yeah.
Of course, I was mostly stoned at the time.

I see Pink Floyd are winning comfortably at this stage. Sums up the BCB malaise.

I like a tiny bit from both, but neither means much to me.

I suppose I prefer the Pistols of the two.
The opinions of this poster are subjective. That’s how opinions work.

Not having been there at the time (I was 3), I don't think I have ever quite 'got' the excitement engendered by the Sex Pistols. I remember being full of expectation when I first got my hands on 'Never Mind The Bollocks' and was so surprised to hear some quite well played energetic rock. I was expecting a right racket. Don't get me wrong, I love the big hitters ('God Save the Queen', 'Anarchy in the UK') but maybe you had to be there.

EDIT: Lydon's voice is the best part of the package- I think he's an ace frontman and vocalist.

You might as well put McFly up against the Who, or Atomic Kitten up against the Faces. get a grip John.

You sound like solarskope. :D

But in reality , there is little to compare between a one trick pony like the pistols, and the extraordinary, if occasionally overblown records of Pink Floyd. Like comparing water and wine.

Oh, really.
How would this have been different six years ago or whenever?

It would have been different!

We've seen a blanding out. Or at least the mainstream is represented more.

Are Pink Floyd more mainstream than the Sex Pistols?

I'm not sure they are.

They're probably more popular.

The iconoclastic, anti-fashion, against-received wisdom/critical consensus impulse on this place, at one time refreshing, has regressed to being a cop-out where hoary old dross, rightly derided elsewhere, is celebrated wildly and a distrust verging on the irrational of the new or celebrated-elsewhere is accepted. Frankly, the lunatics have taken over the asylum.

This doesn't cover the Floyd v Pistols debate but the result of this poll does give an indication of the prevailing vibe. And it is stuck in 1974.
