Can I say Joy Division, given that they only had one LP out in the 70s?

Well those and the greatest live album ever, plus their live act in general. By Numbers is pretty decent too. Oh and half a dozen great singles independent of the albums.

Of course Live At Leeds.... but Led Zeppelin's live act was every bit as good and lasted longer into the decade. And there's III, IV, HOTH, Physical Graffiti... plus Presence & ITTOD (which are both superior to By Numbers).

I enjoyed his efforts, a decent provocateur with a distinct voice and fun anti-Limey stance.

I also would say The Who. I include their general ethos/creativity, Townshend interviews, etc.

50/50 really. Three OK to good albums. Three Godawful embarrassments. It's a draw.

1970 - Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out! *****
1971 - Sticky Fingers *****
1972 - Exile On Main Street ****
1973 - Goats Head Soup ****
1974 - It's Only Rock 'N' Roll ****
1975 - Black and Blue ***
1976 - Love You Live ****
1978 - Some Girls *****

Not an embarrassment in the bunch.

Townshend's work outside the band too, come to that.
Who came First and Rough Mix are both chock-full of magic.
And Empty Glass was mostly recorded in the 70s too.
