Postby J » 25 Feb 2024, 00:28

One of the contestants on BBC's Mastermind quiz has picked 'Genesis from 1967-1977' as their specialist subject on the next programme.

It's to be broadcast on BBC2 at 19:30 this Monday, the 26th of February, and is a semi-final programme.

Also available after transmission via the programme webpage: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m001wv2l

I'd wager here and now that I'd get more points than the contestant does

Those aren't the real answers, btw - I was larking about not realising the programme was actually on at the time!

Anyone have the real question list yet?

He did well. Stalled too long on the b-side question, then got it wrong - rookie error.

1) When the group formed as Genesis at Charterhouse school in 1967, who was the original drummer in the band, who later became an acclaimed writer?
2) At a concert in Aylesbury in June 1971, Peter Gabriel jumped off the stage and broke his ankle while performing which song?
3) What's the title of the song from the Foxtrot album which was a regular opener for the band's live shows from 1972 to 74, when Gabriel would walk on stage wearing a black costume and bat wings?
4) What was the name of the artist who adapted her painting 'The Dream' to be used as the cover of the album Selling England By The Pound?
5) The song inspired by a news story about East End gang fights featuring characters such as Liquid Len, the Barking Slugs, and the Bethnal Green Butcher was entitled 'The Battle Of...' where?
6) The group's first UK top 30 hit single 'I Know What I Like (In Your Wardrobe)' had what song on the B side?
7) The 1976 album A Trick of the Tail which established Phil Collins as the band's lead vocalist was recorded at which London studios?
8) Which Tony Banks song on Wind And Wuthering was partly inspired by Michael Moorcock's novel Phoenix In Obsidian?
9) The song 'Harold The Barrel from the 1971 Nursery Cryme album describes the disappearance of a restaurant owner last seen in 'a mouse brown overcoat' and who is from which English seaside town?
10) Which song recorded at Richard Branson's Manor studio in Oxford was released in the UK as a single in May 1972 but at the time did not appear on any studio album?
11) The 1973 Genesis Live album which reached number nine in the UK charts was recorded at two main locations - Manchester Free Trade Hall and which venue in Leicester?
12) The three tracks featured on the 1977 EP Spot The Pigeon are 'Pigeons', 'Match Of The Day' and what other song?

10/12*
He got 11
But had I been in the chair I would have answered at least three more questions as he didn't interrupt any of them

Chris Stewart and Betty Swanscombe, by the way - both of which I knew but couldn't think of

10 out of 12 is brilliant. He deserves a price. How about that live album?
My score's a big fat 0.

I got 5 and there were a couple I knew but couldn’t bring to mind quickly enough.

If the no interruption rule is new, it is not very new. Scally would no doubt be able to tell us, were he still with us.

I only got 7. I’ve even read the Chris Stewart’s book but forgot his name and Betty’s surname.
