Fabulous cover design. Vocals make it sound like Caravan.

.

Same vocalist - Richard Sinclair.

Very distinctive voice and the lad gets around a bit - Camel too

Marvellously moving music

Re: Richard Sinclair, not very keen on his voice, one of the reasons I’m not over fond of Caravan. Too smooth, lacking in soul.

Now Rog had a voice - a brilliant voice.

Some might suggest Family teetered on prog, there were signs.

The new one from Mostly Autumn.

Pretty much follows the usual formulae, but that works just fine for me.

Agreed

A fantastic album - my fave of theirs

Richard Branson himself sold me my copy in the Oxford Street Virgin shop above the shoe shop

Unbelievable that a brilliant guitarist and a unique vocalist could produce such adequacy at best :(

I guess they were trying to join in with the heavier blues-rock scene that had gained some degree of prevalence at the time, a bit like Humble Pie and like HP, shame they forgot the tunes.

First time I heard this album was at Steve Girl’s house, who played with Babe Ruth and Wild Turkey for a while. He was a friend of mine at the college I went to, along with his best friend Gary Fletcher of the Blues Band

Pretty good 'live' album.

They had some great songs and produced a few really good albums over a period, Jailbreak has always been favourite. Melodic hard rock.

Two beautiful covers, the Hatfield possibly shading it for the one I'd frame. My Rock Bottom is on CD, so sadly not that cover, but I'll acquire a copy of that one someday...

Somebody mention hard rock?

My favourite Zep album and a great AC/DC album. Never beeen that keen on the Brian Johnson era but Bon Scott had a great voice.

This is a treat.

Soft Machine with Percy Jones on bass. Introduction by Spike Milligan.

Ric Sanders violin/keyboards

I haven't seen it before - delightful

Return of Forever - Romantic Warrior 1976
Proper fusion, with more than a hint of prog. I'll bet most of you would love it.

I've had a love/hate relationship with Return To Forever ever since I rented their first album in '74 or so. I really liked that album. I guess it's more standard jazz compared to what came after. When Romantic Warrior came out Fusion was the big thing and I liked the virtuosity, especially that of Al Di Meola (ladies & gentlemen) who around the same time produced two very nice solo albums (Elegant Gipsy and another one). But after a few listens I started to dislike it for its pompousness and 'cold' sound. I guess it had everything to do with me getting hold of Leave Home, Radio Ethiopia, The Clash, etc. I got rid of the vinyl. Fast forward to the early 90's. Friend of mine puts it on during a party and I loved it. Got me the CD soon after and enjoyed listening to it a couple of times. Of course, soon I got fed up with it again. Haven't played it this century and I don't think I will ever again. I have played and will play the first album, Light as a Feather and the first 2 Di Meola albums at times. Just remembered: I lost my love for fusion in 76/77 but I bought Heavy Weather when it come out in 1977 and have loved it ever since. That's one of the few albums punk couldn't defeat, for me. Excuse me my ramblings; the wife is watching a shit-show and it's too early to hit the sack.

The Faust Tapes [original UK cover]

Image

I love this album.

Released on Virgin it was a bit of a marketing gimmick because it was sold dirt cheap - 49p I think - the price of a single. Still, clever, because it sold tens of thousands of copies even the majority of those that bought it had no idea what they were buying. It certainly exposed Faust to the British market
